Blue Sharks host 407 demons
The Barbers Pointer, July 22 1988
By LTJG Kevin Hannes

On July 6, LtCol R. B. Southerland, Commanding Officer of Canadian Forces 407th Squadron arrived here at NAS Barbers Point completing the relocation from Comox, British Columbia for RIMPAC '88.
This is not the first time that the "Blue Sharks" have had the pleasure of
hosting 407 Squadron. During VP-6's recent deployment to Adak, AK, the Blue Sharks hosted the personnel of VP 407 during exercises in the Northern Pacific.
The Canadians fly the Lockheed CP-140 Aurora, a modern and sophisticated
multi-mission platform. Outwardly, the Aurora looks like a dark grey P3 Orion. Inside, the similarity stops just aft of the flight station. The tactical station borrows some display and control features from the U.S. Navy/Lockheed S-3 Viking, which, when added to Canadian equipment in a unique and practical Canadian arrangement makes a formidable aircraft.
The Blue Sharks, in an effort to broaden their ASW and ASUW expertise, have flown several tactical missions on board the Aurora. Flying with our northern neighbors was an enriching and exciting experience because of their different approach to familiar missions. The increased mutual awareness of capabilities and tactics will pay dividends in our overlapping defense interests.

The world famous Blue Sharks extend a heartfelt thanks and a warm Aloha to the
Demons and wish them good hunting during RIMPAC '88, and fair winds and
following seas until we meet again.
