VP-4, VP-6 trade Ready Alert barrel

   CDR D. C. Ahlstrand (CO of VP-4) and CDR J. K. Sikes (CO of VP-6) recently exchanged the CPW2 Ready Alert Barrel in Hangar 282. The Skinny Dragons and the Blue Sharks are in the midst of a four-month period wherin the ready alert duty is traded off monthly.

   VP-4 traced the tradition of being "in-the-barrel" back to the logging camps of the great Northwest where the barrel was the center of social activity. CDR Ahlstrand will explain the origins of the tradition today at The Windsock Officer's Club.
