Three Blue Sharks receive medals
by LTJG Scott Walton
In a recent ceremony, the World Famous Blue Sharks of VP-6 were proud to award one Navy Achievement Medal and two Navy Commendation Medals. Receiving the NAM was ATC Raymond Flanagan and the recipients of the NCMs were LCDR Tony Racette and LT Bill Eastwood.
ATC Flanagan was recognized for personally developing and implementing a comprehensive computer controlled operations data system. This system
revolutionized flight schedule production and made operational and training data readily available.
LCDR Tony Racette was awarded the NCM for his flawless leadership of the communications department onboard the USS Carl Vinson from January 1983 through September 1985. Under his direction, the department achieved a ninety-seven percent score during the command's Operational Readiness Examination, the highest grade yet achieved.
LT Bill Eastwood also received the NCM. He was commended for heroic achievement. On October 10, 1985, LT Bill Eastwood rescued an incapacitated surfer being driven onto a coral reef by heavy surf at Waikiki Beach. Honolulu. With total disregard for his own safety, he was forced to carry the victim to shore.
The World Famous Blue Sharks are proud to have these three men onboard. They have set a standard of excellence that is closely adhered to by all Blue Shark personnel.
